'Calling "mommy" on the phone asking for financial help': Boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend break their lease early because their roommate asks them to scoop their own cat's litter, having a complete meltdown over having to do basic cleaning

As roommates, there are certain responsibilities that you have. We think that all decent people who have been or have had roommates in the past know this. And if there is a cat in the household, the number of these responsibilities grows. But things still have to be done, and they have to be done respectfully. You cannot lock your roommate's cat in room room nightly without their permission. You cannot adopt a cat just to post pics of it on social media then expect your roommates to take care of it. You cannot ask your demand your roommate clean up after your cat just because you don't feel like doing it. 

Basic things. You think people would have the common sense to do them. But apparently not. Cleaning your cat's litterbox every once in a while is one of those responsibilities that you have - both as a roommate and as a cat owner. You can't expect your roommate to do it and then throw a fit when they complain.

  • The level of insanity in this story is one that we have not seen in a while. Like- this is actually crazy. So many things happened here, and for literally the smallest reason. Cleaning, whether you're family or not, is your most basic responsibility as a roommate.

    It kickstarted a I apologized if I came off rude, explained it wasn't my intent. But it was too late. She actually got very upset that I apologized, and said that I was trying to "manipulate what actually happened". If I ignored. her, I "clearly hated her." She called me a bully, had no interest in being my friend.

    The tension got so bad that I dreaded being at home. The other couple began to say sh under their breath when I walked into the room. I was quietly removed from a few discord channels. Passive aggressive sticky notes. Throwing my clean laundry on the floor.

    bf It didn't take long for my to finally snap at them. He was "done playing nice" and called them out for their behavior. Not giving them a chance to twist the situation. Telling her he would not talk to her, because he was done with her disrespecting me.

  • We feel bad for the kitty most of all. Clearly, she is not being the most well taken care of by these people if they're not cleaning after her. She's going to get revenge though, once she starts using their new floors as a litterbox, but we're not sure that's a good thing for her either. If you can, check on her - yourselves or through other family members - make sure that she's okay.

    Sweaty-Training-1055 , good riddance. Poor kitty though, I wonder if they'll start caring about scooping the litter box when the cat inevitably starts peeing all over their new place.
